Miss Anagabriela Espinoza, 21 years old, from Mexico wins the Miss International Pageant 2009

The 2009 Miss International Pageant was held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China, on the evening of November 28. Miss Anagabriela Espinoza, 21 years old, from Mexico won \first prize. Miss Seo Eum-mi, 22 years old, from South Korea, and Miss Chloe-Beth Morgan, 23 years old, from the United Kingdom won second and third places respectively. With 65 representatives from around the world, the pageant celebrated its 49th anniversary this year. Sichuan Province was chosen as a host of this event to encourage local residents, after the area was severely damaged by the Great Sichuan Earthquake last year. After the activities in Beijing, the representatives visited Chengdu on November 19. They visited the disaster-struck area, Dujiangyan, where they meet with the elementary school children. They raised 496,000 yuan (approximately 6.3 million yen) by selling folk craft brought from their own countries in an auction and donated the full proceeds to the Red Cross.

2009 Miss International World Pageant: Second press conference held in Chengdu!

A press conference for this year’s World Pageant was held at the Sichuan Tennis International Hotel in Chengdu, China on September 2. A press conference had already been held in Beijing in July, but this second conference in the host city Chengdu attracted a great deal of media interest.
In Chengdu, one of China’s favorite tourist destinations because it is the home of the panda and the birthplace of Sichuan cuisine, Alejandra Andreu of Spain who was crowned Miss International 2008 received a rapturous welcome from the local Chengdu population, the story was covered extensively by TV and various newspapers, and now the local people also appear to be buzzing with excitement about the forthcoming pageant.

Miss International World Pageant A press conference was held in Beijing.

It has been decided to hold this year’s Miss International World Pageant on November 28 in Chengdu, in China’s Sichuan Province. News media representatives of both China and Japan were therefore invited to a press conference held on July 28 in Beijing’s JW Marriott Hotel, where the staging of the pageant in China was announced. The 2008 Miss International First Prizewinner Alejandra Andreu also attended. Visiting Beijing for the first time, Alejandra visited the Great Wall of China and the Palace Museum, enjoying her albeit short stay in this year’s host country, China.
